Law and Order -- Criminal Intent

From: dagonell2001 (salley@klaatu.canisius.edu) | Date: 2005-05-09 15:16:03 UTC
I was watching L&O last night. The plot revolved around geocaching
and letterboxing. (I think Hollywood has trouble understanding the
difference) A geo-cacher was being framed for murder. The murderer
planted evidence near a geo-cache to incriminate the suspect. The
detective had to solve the clues to figure out where the cache was so
the surrounding area could be searched for evidence. I thought it was
neat, that our hobbies are being noticed by the mainstream media.
Now, if one of us was to find a finger in a letterbox...

I'm not sure that I agree with you on this. The more mainstream media
knows about letterboxing, the more this hobby will be affected. One of
the interesting things about Letterboxing is the secrecy, and
underground aspect of the hobby. Publicity isn't always a good thing.

I'm with Don and am very glad that letterboxing
wasn't mentioned in the episode, only geocaching.
I laughed when I saw the keychain prizes that the
'suspect' was exchanging. I have seen that very
same keychain in a cache that I found accidentally
while letterboxing. Funhog

I was watching too and as soon as I saw Vincent D'Onofrio (or Cutiepie as I call him) take the key chains and the GPS out of the bag I screamed "Oh my gosh it's a geo-cacher!" My family came running and couldn't understand my excitement/horror. I feel bad for the Geo-cache community and hope that the next murder suspect is not a letterboxer!
